Mobius Final Fantasy JP – The Beautiful Steam Version

Some screenshots, thoughts about the Windows version, and a gameplay video~!

  • The store page is region locked to Japan meaning that you need an IP address from Japan to access it. I took a look through it via VPN to see if it mentioned game pad support and it does but it’s not supported. Neither is touchscreen.
    .
As far as I can tell, using the mouse is the only way to get around, but you can exit the game with the ESC key on the keyboard. Actually, I don’t believe there’s any other way to close the game other than with that or Alt-F4.

Mobius Final Fantasy - Two sections of the game's store page on Steam
Two parts of the store page. ^^ This is the link to the page: http://store.steampowered.com/app/504730/. Again, it will not show up if your IP address is not from Japan.
  • The game data sharing option didn’t go as smoothly as I liked. I generated the one-time password from my iPad mini 2, but the Steam version refused to accept it. I tripled checked the letters and numbers since I still had the password on the tablet screen. No mistakes were made when inputting it so I have no idea why it kept giving me an error. Generating a new password worked though.
    .
  • As the title of this post indicates, it’s beautiful. Here are some samples. The screenshots are in 1680×1050 which is my desktop resolution. Kind of old school based on today’s standards, I know:
Mobius FInal Fantasy - Echo on Steam
    Shiny Echo. *_*
This was taken from my temporary account when I was trying out the Steam version. ^^
Mobius FInal Fantasy - Close up of the Risk Taker
    This high definiton quality. *_*
Mobius FInal Fantasy - Mog (Steam version)
    Mog TT

    Maybe it’s not impressive to some since their mobile devices already display the game in gorgeous quality but this is a step up from what I’m used to seeing on my iPad mini 2. In fact, after a few hours of playing the game on my computer, it’s hard to look at the mobile version. ^^;

    Two comparison screencaps:

Mobius Final Fantasy - Comparison between iPad mini 2 and Steam graphics
Left is from the iPad mini 2. Right is from the Steam version.
The details and texture on is much sharper on the PC version.

One thing I noticed was that the Skirmisher/Survivor STILL wore a black void as a suit even in higher resolution. But if you rotated the model a bit to get lighting onto the blackness, you can kind of see some contrast.

Mobius Final Fantasy - Survivor/Skirmisher Steam version
    Completely black. D:

Mobius Final Fantasy - Survivor/Skirmisher Steam version
You can kind of see the abs!

Some more screenshots and babbling under the cut.

Mobius Final Fantasy JP – Windows Version/Steam Test Without VPN

Edit on November 4th EDT: Corrected the error about Magicite not transferring between operating systems. It doesn’t apply to any that were received for free.

Edit @ 11: EDT, November 1st: It works! Some screenshots and info on game data sharing have been added. :3

Edit @ 1:22 EDT, Nov 1st: Official JP Twitter updated with tweet that there is no estimate on what time the maintenance will end. iOS and Android versions are also affected.

Edit @ 21:20 EDT: Maintenance is still going. 😡

———

Thanks to Tok Woei Cherng for sharing the following at the
Facebook group I’m apart of
.

At the present time, the game can be installed through https://steamdb.info/app/504730/info/ without the use of VPN.

DISCLAIMER: Attempt this at your own risk. There’s every possibility the game is still region locked to Japan and Steam doesn’t really like people from other countries accessing things not meant for their own region. Please see point 3, section A under http://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement/

As the game is still in maintenance at the moment, it’s uncertain if the game will even work properly once it goes live at 10:00 AM Japan Time.

Here are some screenshots after downloading the installer. ^^

I suppose the pop-up window right aligned since the game menu will be on that side.

As for the full list of Steam achievements, you can view them at the steamdb.info site.

For system requirements, I listed them here: https://koukoupuffs.net/2016/10/18/mobius-final-fantasy-jp-square-enix-to-release-mobius-ff-on-steam-next-month/

For everyone looking to know how to share the save data from their mobile game with the Windows one, the Square Enix Presents stream from yesterday had a slide about that. 😀

Mobius Final Fantasy - Game Data Sharing
The process is the same for all platforms. You can do the reverse too and move the Windows game data to mobile.

Seeing that the game loads and plays without issue, it seems like Square Enix just opted to make the store page fixed to the Japan region. The game isn’t doesn’t check for your location. This isn’t to say it won’t change in the future though.

Come to think of it, I think in-app purchases are still restricted to Japan. I’m unsure of this though.

Please note that purchased Magicite/Magic Stones (魔石 – the premium currency) doesn’t transfer between different operating systems. Magicite received through maps, login bonuses, daily missions, etc. will.

An English version of Mobius Final Fantasy Steam/Windows version is currently unavailable.

Global Servers

Calendar: https://www.facebook.com/notes/mobius-final-fantasy-ne/november-calendar/350130795341430

Keep in mind that new content is usually added at 19:00 UTC-8 (server time). However, the dates vary so not everything will occur on November 1st or the first Thursday of the month. Relevant links found below lead to Japanese sites. Use Google Translate or your favourite translation site on them.

Mobius Final Fantasy Global - Breakdown of November content
What’s in store for November~
  • From November 1st until November 13th, special login bonuses will be available in addition to the regular ones. Also within this period, all players will be given 1 free summon draw a day for 1 ability card.

Mobius Final Fantasy Global - Special Login Bonuses for 8,888,888 registered users celebration
Special login bonuses to celebrate 8,888,888 registered users!
  • Facebook campaign for sharing an event-corresponding post 888 times. When the goal is met, everyone will receive 88 Ability Tickets.
  • Third exploration map (http://altema.jp/ffmobius/hunterisland-3817) and second set of Skill Panels (panels 5 – 8) will be implemented on November 8th.
  • FF Type-0 summon cards campaign from November 8th – 23rd. See details at http://altema.jp/ffmobius/zerohdcollabo-3196
  • Hashmal and 3-star battles will be added in multiplayer on November 10th.  http://altema.jp/ffmobius/hasyumarimu-9996 The suggested jobs and decks aren’t really relevant to global though.
  • New event running from November 17 until December 14: Collective Limit Break!
    .
The map is divided into 3 regions; each one grants a boost in deck level for one specific class. However, you can still use another class, such as a Warrior in a Ranger region, but the Warrior won’t receive the bonus boost. In the Japanese version, unlocking one of the locks at the top of the map was determined by the number of players using a certain job class, I believe. You can see more details here: https://xn--ff-sg4a4c7f9c.gamewith.jp/article/show/16382
  • Battle Tower: Karma Season!  http://altema.jp/ffmobius/tonberi-3303 This runs from November 24 until December 2nd.

  • FFX cards and Ace Striker (Tidus) job will be around from November 24th to December 2nd.  http://altema.jp/ffmobius/ffxcarnival-4402
  • New Echo costumes along with Chef/Cook Tonberry and FF Type-0 Class Second Moogle in the Spirit Grove. Class Zero and Class Third Moogles can also be obtained. The former is from the event map and the other one … Well, in JP, players had to collect 10 of each key item from Colossus enemies to receive it. Since there’s been changes in global events already, I’m not sure this method will still be the case. :\

Echo, Echo, and Echo. I believe the Pirate Echo is gained from completing the third exploration area though.

Mobius Final Fantasy - Global November 2016 Spirits
Screencap from Japanese version. The flan is already in global. (I’m sure it was added before the FF Type-0 collaboration but I ignored it so it’s still showing new.)
  • On November 24th, AOE (area of effect) + Break Defense Down cards along with other currently unnamed ones will be added. Former summon draw-only cards, Carbuncle, Alexander, and Doomtrain, will appear in the Ability Shop from this point on as well.

Mobius Final Fantasy JP – Chapter 6 Part 1 Completed

Mobius Final Fantasy - Chapter 6 Part 1 Complete
This is what shows up once you finish the entire map. I’m not sure what やりこみ means though. Google Translate says it’s “Crowded” so it’s Crowded Dungeon?? Seems weird. .__. Also, I wonder if the text was actually meant for Part 2. ^^;

Whew, I’m finally done with this infernal lock-infested map. While locks are certainly nothing new in the world of Mobius Final Fantasy, Chapter 6 Part 1 is patterned after the Hall of Fame where specific objectives are found on each one so you’ll encounter them along almost every single path.

However, unlike the Hall of Fame, all attempts are counted toward the target goal so if you don’t meet the conditions the first time, you can replay the same area again until you do. The only exception is the node before the final battle with a Sicarius. The task for that lock is to score a single hit against the boss that reaches 300,000 or higher in damage.

I wrote about the joys of attempting to accomplish that with Ifrit in my initial post about Chapter 6.

One thing I didn’t mention in that post was that Chapter 6 Part 1 was to be released in 2 separate segments. The top half of the map, which featured Shiva and Ifrit, came out on October 8th while the bottom half with Hamshal and Famfrit started a few days ago on October 22nd. Mobius Final Fantasy – First Anniversary Collections (art book)

I love the artwork from the game so I pre-ordered the book from Amazon Japan not long after it was announced by Square Enix. The shipping confirmation was received this Monday and it was delivered last night. *_* So fast~!

Anyway, I took some photos of some of the illustrations. Pardon the quality since I don’t have any professional tools or equipment to take incredible photos. ^^

Case in point:

takingphotos

The photos~

There’s also commentary from Toshiyuki Itahana (character designer), Toshitaka Matsuda (art designer), and an interview with both Yoshinori Kitase and Naoki Hamaguchi, the producer and project leader of Mobius Final Fantasy respectively.

Please don’t request for certain illustrations. This is all I’m planning on sharing. If you like what you see, please purchase the book! For overseas customers, it costs 2593 yen. Along with shipping and import fees, the total ended up as 3773 yen. I haven’t checked what other retailers carry it aside from the Square Enix Japan e-Store and Amazon Japan though so there may be cheaper options. (The SE Japan store doesn’t ship internationally.)

Incidentally, some of the illustrators have posted their Mobius FF works online. Please refer to this post for links to many of them: https://koukoupuffs.net/2016/06/06/the-artists-of-mobius-final-fantasy/ Note: All links were working at the time I wrote that post, but there’s a possibility that some may be broken now. ^^

Before anyone asks, Square Enix has yet to mention if they will release an English version of the art book.

Mobius Final Fantasy JP – Square Enix to release Mobius FF on Steam next month!

You can pre-register here: http://www.finalfantasy.jp/mobius/cpn/win_regi.html However, please be aware of the following points!

There is every possibility this game will be region locked to Japan. (See this FAQ: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1266-QFZC-2141)

Also, note the following for anyone thinking about using VPN:

“You agree that you will not use IP proxying or other methods to disguise the place of your residence, whether to circumvent geographical restrictions on game content, to purchase at pricing not applicable to your geography, or for any other purpose. If you do this, Valve may terminate your access to your Account.”

The above was quoted from section 3, point A under http://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement/

Before anyone asks, there is no word on a Mac or Linux version. There are ways to play Windows games on either operating systems though. (Please search on Google or your favourite search engine for information. ^^;)

Mobius Final Fantasy JP – Chapter 6 and My Problem with Ifrit

Or “Wow. Really? We’re supposed to clear Chapter 6 with this job? Okay then. ┐(´~`)┌”

Perhaps the biggest issue is that Chapter 6 restricts you to using only Meia jobs so if you didn’t manage to draw the superior job, Fauvist, from the Meia-themed summon draw that accompanied the release of the new story chapter, you’ll be stuck with the freebie job, The Azure Witch.

Mobius Final Fantasy - Artwork for the job card, The Azure Witch
Artwork for the job card, The Azure Witch

It’s decent as all stats are pretty balanced and it also has a wide range of auto-abilities, but it honestly doesn’t feel like it’s enough to tackle the new map — especially on Hard difficulty and for the area objective that requires dishing out 300,000 HP of damage on Ifrit. You can see players at the Altema wiki expressing difficulty in achieving the goal. (Comments are toward the bottom of the page.)

I’ll get come back to this in a bit. First, let’s look at some screenshots from Chapter 6. 😀 Continue reading Mobius Final Fantasy JP – Chapter 6 and My Problem with Ifrit
