Ys Celceta Log #16

Let’s start this log with a pro tip: To get 100% of the map, look for areas where the dark brown outlines aren’t completely solid. For example — and this is kind of a bad example since you can’t do anything about “filling in” the lines here but hopefully, it’ll illustrate what I mean — if the border of an area is faint or missing like in this image, go there and move along the wall or edge to “fill it out”.

There will be cases where the outline will remain sort of faint since there are trees, plants, or rocks that block the edge. Those are fine since the game takes those into account. So yes, the border of the southeastern part of Highland is impossible to fill out and if it does later on somehow, then it obviously isn’t considered as part of the 100% since, as you can see in the screenshot below, the outline still isn’t fully connected all the way. 😛

Basically, the general rule when going for the map completion trophy is always do your best to fill out the outline of every region you go to.

Ys Celceta - 100% map completion get!
Getting 100% of the map doesn’t mean a finished game since I believe I still have 1 or 2 dungeons left. However, you can only get 100% after you enter a late-game dungeon which will be covered in this log (Log #16)~!

Now for the meat of this entry~! This log will be a big one since it contains information about two dungeons: Mt. Vesvio (ヴェスヴィオ山), the Colonia Magic Laboratory (コロニア魔法具研究所), AND all the side quests that come after it.

  • The outside region of Mt. Vesvio is a fairly linear ordeal. All the little mounds of snow you come across can simply be attacked without the need to switch to the claw artifact.  Eventually, you will come across a part where you spot 2 chests up on a ledge though. They can’t be accessed until a bit later. Incidentally, the chest in the screenshot has a Power Troche (パワートローチ).|
    .
  • The party will soon get to a gap! No problem though since there’s a giant hanging disc-like thing that Carna can cut down!
    .
  • Moving over the newly bridged gap will trigger a red memory fragment to appear. It’s another one of Lefance’s memories. Adol gets HP +10 after the scene finishes.
    .
  • Inside the cave, there’ll be a chest with a Shield Troche (シールドトローチ) just before the two spots with air coming out from the ground. Use Frida’s Personal Action to cover the right hole which will force the air to only come out of the left crack. The red chest on the ledge will have a Belt of Valor (鋭気のベルト). Oh yeah, enemies can drop from higher areas and start attacking you when you’re covering the holes so becareful.
    .
  • You’ll have to use Frida’s PA twice on the left hole to boost the strength of the air flow in the right side. Move the party onto it to reach higher ground. A bit of a random note: if you have some sort of hatred against Frida, you can switch her out now as her services will no longer be needed. 😛
    .
  • Take the exit to the west for a chest (that contains a Diamond) and a harvest point (at the bottom). Head back up the slopes and then go north.
    .
  • Whee~! No, there’s no way to stop the slide down. BUT! Do pay attention not to move the left analog stick or d-pad too much to the left or the right after the long drop because you can fall off the edges.  (You’ll end up in the area that was described in the previous bullet point.) You can technically control your slide so that you stop in the spot near the chest on the east but even if you continue forward, it’ll be all right since you can go back up for it.
    .
  • The exit to the south leads to the place with the two chests that was spotted shortly after entering the cave. The red chest has a Rune Cloak +7 (ルーンクローク) while the regular chest has a Bitter Potion.
    .
  • I can’t remember if I just slid into the room with the north exit or ran in, but regardless of the method, Adol and friends will hear the sound of a harp~! < spoiler >And that could only mean that a certain someone is here! I believe the party finds out the reason(s) for Remnos “joining” Grudha. He puts on his mask just before returning to his duties but the mask begins to emit a strange aura! Remnos is incapacitated and Bammy appears to express her displeasure in his work ethics. (You know, like obviously helping his sister and all. :P) She then sics some masked soldiers on the party.
    .
After the fight, everyone’s kind of at a loss at how to help Remnos. Then Leo appears to save the day!? Well, I believe there’s some discussion that the only way to undo the curse on Remnos is to defeat Bammy. It’s then suggested that Leo and his group take Remnos to the Roos while Adol and the rest continue onward.</ spoiler >
    .
  • Incidentally, you can dash back up part of the the slope with the Hurricane Boots. However, you’ll reach a point where you just can’t continue and end up sliding back down anyway.
    .
  • Going through the north exit will have you back outside. There are a few spots where monsters will hurl snowballs at you down an incline. I mean, while they’ve always been throwing snowballs or themselves around, I thought the angle was neat so I decided to mention it. :3
    .
  • There’s also a spot where you’ll get a frontal view of an incline, reach a level area with a harvest point, and then shortly afterwards go up another one but it’ll be in a profile view. It’s probably easy to get beaned by a snowball here if you’re not careful.
    .
  • Once you reach the vicinity with the entrance into a cave, take the lower path first. It’ll lead to a chest with a 3 Starlight Stones (星光石). Heading back up, take the first turn east and then have Carna shoot down another disc-like thing.
    .
  • Before entering the cave, there’s a chest sitting south of the harvest point. Oddly, I took a screencap of the chest itself but not the contents so I have no idea what’s it in. However, since it’s a regular old chest, I doubt it’s anything special or rare.
    .
  • Inside, the chest nearby has some Green Crystals (緑晶石).
    .
  • A waystone and a dais ahead? A boss battle soon? Of course!
    .
  • Heh. This would have been a nice screencap if I didn’t get it while Carna had her eyes closed. ^^

Took the snapshot just a second too early. ^^
  • It’s no surprise that this boss cheats as well! Actual boss form is this. :B The battle itself is fairly all right but there’s also a killer beam that can knock out characters that aren’t able to avoid it. And even if it’s not a KO, it’ll still do some hefty damage.
    .
  • I’m kind of disappointed there’s no dying speech or parting threat after these fights. 😦 I don’t believe that I’ll come across them again but who knows? Maybe their spirits will still be around the fuse with the final boss or something. Obvious final boss is obvious because, to me, it can only be one of two characters and since I already spoiled myself by accident … 😛
    .
  • Yay~! < spoiler >Not that you can really tell but the curse has been lifted~!< /spoiler >
    .
  • Approach the dais and another memory will appear. More Eldeel and Lefance. Adol gets STR +1~!
    .
  • The chest contains the < spoiler >other half of the Mask of the Moon.< /spoiler >
    .
  • < spoiler >Back at the Roos’ nest, Remnos is performing for some Roo children. Wow. I totally didn’t take any screens of the conversation but basically, everyone is glad he’s all right and then discuss the next course of action. Remnos tells the party that they should speak to the Gran Roo.
    .
Haha. The Gran Roo is still sleeping. When it wakes up, it sees that the party has the two halves of the Mask of the Moon. When asked about how to make it whole again, Gran Roo alludes to Riesa as being the key. < /spoiler >
    .
  • Can’t recall the rest of the conversation that much but he bestows the Treasured Sword, Emeraude upon Adol which will help deal with enemies that won’t die from regular attacks. (I think they’re referred to as “ancient living weapons”? (古代の生体兵器)) This is a key item so you can’t equip it. The ally that’s with you at the moment will insist on tagging along but Carna says no.
    .
  • The next destination is the Colonia Magic Laboratory (コロニア魔法具研究所).
    .
  • You will meet Gazok at the waystone. Oh yeah, I think he’s the ONE character you can interact with in roo form. Unfortunately, you can’t do anything like shop from him without reverting to human form. 😛
    .
  • Now it’s time to take on the butt-ugly, door-loving creature. To actually kill it, you have to use Adol’s new Personal Attack when it’s stunned.
    .
  • Once defeated, the door to the lab will open. Nina will fly in confirm that Riesa is inside. Oh, if you’ve gone around Celceta to fill out the map, there’s a good chance that you’ll be somewhere between 99% – 100% at this point. You may even be at 100%!
    .
  • Your goal is to get to the other side of the gap and the game takes you on a journey with lots of hexagon-shaped rooms and stairs and a few mini tunnels before you can ever get near that place.  Have Adol handy at all times since you’ll run into several of the same type of living weapons. In fact, there’s one in the first room sitting in front of the corridor to the next area. Incidentally, you can reach the spot in the screenshot by taking the north exit in the second area from the entrance. There won’t be anything to do there though. Before I forget, Dulen is an ideal member for this excursion as well since there will be several chests for him to open.
    .
  • So from the second area, head south to a place with a path designed in a hexagon shape and go northeast.

    This way!
  • The moment you enter the new zone, the party will hear a female scream. Go follow the path into the next zone and continue on from there. Very soon, everyone will stop.
    .
  • < spoiler >Riesa will be on the ground (having been dropped by Sol?). Sol seems to be in pain but she doesn’t know why. (Actually, she explains why she came to this location before that. ^^) Canlilica gets the bright idea to yell at it. But, to everyone’s surprise, Sol begins to speak!  It seems to be in a state of confusion, questioning where it was and why it’s here. Sol then flies off.< /spoiler >
    .
  • After the tense moment, Riesa is invited to accompany the group. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that she’s insanely useless and is pure cannon fodder for enemies! Not only that, but she’ll just casually follow around the player character and shriek and gasp when she’s hit. She heals herself though and only herself. If you get hurt, she won’t do anything. Oops. Scratch that. You just need to be in her personal space (like literally standing right next to her) for her to heal you. Do your best to protect her too since I think it’s game over if she dies. Another thing: Don’t rush off far ahead of Riesa . The game will stop you from entering another zone until she’s back with the party. :/ Just for fun, here’s my party with her in roo form.
    .
  • Head south into another area. There’s a shaft that will lead to some stairs to a lower level. In the bottom room, there will be a chest for Dulen and a regular chest. Regular chest has a Roda Fruit (ロダの実) and the Dulen one has an Elixir of Defense (守の霊薬).
    .
  • Back up and through the shaft. Head west into a hexagon room with another chest for Dulen which has an Elixir of Life (命の霊薬). Go up the stairs at the left of the room.
    .
  • There’s not much to write about for the next few screens since there are no forks of any kind. Just keep following the path until you reach the waystone.

My directions should have gotten you here~
  • There are a few of those weapon creatures around in the following area so if you haven’t already, put Adol into the active party. Going north will lead to a red chest that has a, uh, Hermit’s Muffler (隠者のマフラー). This handy item lets you gain EXP while moving. :3
    .
  • I wonder what the ancient civilization was making in this capsule? Other kinds of living weapons? Anyway, keep on going west. The path will eventually turn south toward an exit.
    .
  • In this next zone, there will be a fork toward the southeast. Select the north route. It will lead to a room on a lower floor that has three chests. The one right of the red chest has 10,000 G, left one has Gold Ore x 10 (金鉱石), and the red chest itself holds a Rune Blade +9 (ルーンブレイド). Time to head back up and take the other route. It’ll lead you downstairs to a room with a grate that’s obviously concealing a small passageway. Open it and equip the Dwarf Bracelet (小人の腕輪) to go on through.
    .
  • Take the west path. You will end up here. It has a Sunstone (太陽石).
    .
  • Back to the shaft you go~ Select the southwest path. Once out of the shaft, head south until you reach a dead end room with 3 chests.

The dead end with the 3 chests is where the green markers are.
  • Left chest has 3 Panaceas (万能薬), right one has a Bitter Potion. The chest for Dulen contains a Holy Glove +7 (ホーリーグラブ). Now go north to the exit.
    .
  • Linear path all the way which ends up in this wonderful room. It might be a good idea to stay away from the door creature if you can because things can get hairy if you have to deal with it and the mobile monsters at the same time. When enemy on the door is disposed of, the door will slide open. Go through the doorway~
    .
  • Yay! Now you can finally hit the button to bridge the gap!
    .
  • This hall kind of reminds me of the one location in the Ruins of Amnesia in Ys VI. I guess it’s just a breeding site for more Galva-type weapons?
    .
  • Waystone ahead! I suppose it should be obvious what lies ahead.
    .
  • < spoiler >There’s a bit of conversation before the battle starts where Riesa tries to speak to Sol. However, it’s still all confused and eventually goes berserk. Here’s the boss intro image.< /spoiler >
    .
  • If I recall correctly, the battle isn’t too different than the first encounter.
    .
  • < spoiler >After defeating the dragon warrior, it projects something from its chest. It’s the manifestation of Lefance’s spirit. As usual, there’s some explanation of circumstances and such. Following that, Lefance restores the Mask of the Moon.< /spoiler >
    .
  • The next main quest will be at the Temple of the Sun in Eleduk. I believe Riesa takes off ahead (again).  Quite a few new quests have opened up at this point so if you’re going for the quest trophy, now’s the time to visit every town and village. Here’s a run down of all 8 of them:
    .
Highland: 冥界よりの呼び声 – Speak to Cordelia (the girl with the cat). It’ll trigger the destination location which is The Ancient Underground Ruin. Simply transport yourself to the waystone by the quest flag and you will spot some monsters in … a meeting? Just beat them all up to finish the quest. ^^ The main monster is level 55 monster though so take caution.
    .
    Casnan:
    1) 究極の消臭素材 – Talk to the bartender and provide him with a Roda Fruit (ロダの実). He will create a drink that will increase a character max HP by 300. You select the character to receive the drink. You only get ONE drink so choose wisely.
    .
    2) 闇駆りの大蝙蝠 – This is a monster elimination quest in the Casnia Mine. Get details about it from Luluca (ルルカ) who’s standing next to the message board. The enemy is in the boss area and is a level 55 monster. It seemed fairly easy to defeat. For some reason, it never even got in a hit when I fought it. It just sort of stayed in the  position you see in the screenshot. I suppose paralysis really does a number on it. ^^
    .
Comodo: 放浪鶏の捕獲 – Seriously, Pippi’s gotta lock up her pets in a cage or something. This time, the brown chicken has taken off to somewhere. What’s more is that it’s not even in the village! …… Ugh. I’m an absolute doofus. I took a screencap of locating the chicken but not where it is on the map. All I remember is that it’s in the southern part of the Crater of Gidona. Just keep travelling along the left edge of the map and you should eventually find it. Its second location is way down at the southern tip.
    .
    Selray:
    1) えがおのプレゼント – The little girl, Liruche (リルチェ) ,walking around in front of the 2 houses in northern Selray needs some flowers. She’ll ask for 3 of any type you have. After a scene with Sesaly (セサリー) at the Spada stables, you are presented with a flower ring decoration based on the flower that you provided. Since the decoration is considered an accessory, I wonder if it’s possible to get the other 3 through synthesis or will it require multiple playthroughs to get all of them? X_X But then, I don’t know if the item trophy counts accessories. Edit on Oct 21: If you have a quantity of 3 of マールの花, ユベルの花, リブラの花, and セルセタの花, you can hand all of them over at once. In return, you will get 4 flower rings~! And yes, the Item Collector (アイテムコレクター) trophy counts accessories.
    .
    2) 伝説の武器 – Shiryu’s got some plans to make some ultimate weapons. He(?) needs Sunstones (太陽石) to create them. Since you can only get 3 of them in a single playthrough, it looks like you’ll have to play the game again with carry-over data to get all 6.
    .
    Danan:
    1)  ラビットの捜索 – Look for the Explorer named Pigeon (ピジョン) in the item/equipment shop. … LOL. After introducing himself, he starts to give his life story like where he was born, where his parents were born and he tries to continue but he gets cut off by Dulen. ^^  I wasn’t able to understand everything he spoke of but I think he and his partner, Rabbit (ラビット), got separated somehow. She’s apparently somewhere in the vicinity of the Forest of Ash. I believe Pigeon wants to join in the search but Frida and Dulen convince him to stay put.
    .
You can find Rabbit at the Inn of Frogs. The frogs are rather enamoured by her. ^^ While you manage to get her away from them, she kind of steals a look at your map and then runs off. You can find her again at the camp site south of the Forest of Spore … I have a feeling she may have a horrible sense of direction. ^^ Anyway, the remainder of the quest will automatically take place in Danan.
    .
    2) 縛られた怨念 – In the same building as the message board, take the left staircase up to speak to Cid (シドー). He gives you a Blood-Stained Magatama (血塗れの勾玉). I’m not sure about the full story on this one at all but I mentioned during my initial trip into the Forest of Ash that there was a strange glowing light at a southern point of the forest. It’s actually a soul. Equip the magatama and lure it to the quest flag (where the strange looking statue is). Sigh. The spirit moves so damn slow. You can actually run ahead a bit and fight enemies in the meantime. ^^;
    .
The soul will enter the statue thing and a monster will manifest. The thing is a level 55 monster and can hit hard. X__x Its attacks aren’t hard to evade on Normal though. :B
    .
Return to Cid and he will transform (I think) the magatama into the Holy Knight Magatama (聖騎士の勾玉). The accessory protects against Curse and also increases Strength and Defense +10.
    .
  • If you completed the map to Celceta, go see Griselda in Casnan for your reward. It’s the Ares Seal (闘神の刻印) which does exactly the same thing as it does in Ys SEVEN … I think. It allows the EX Gauge to fill up 3 times faster. When it’s upgraded, it will boost the rate up to 8x.
